As part of a Government initiative to reduce pollution from diesel engines and allow the introduction of new engine technology into Australia it was proposed to reduce sulphur content in diesel fuel from 5,000 parts per million (PPM) to less than 50 PPM.
The combination of old age on the existing seals and O rings and Low Sulphur Diesel can lead to premature seal and O ring failure, resulting in fuel leaks.
The original seals were made of nitrile rubber whereas the later ones are constructed of (FKM) or viton. These later type seals are not affected by the new generation of diesel fuel.
If your diesel pump shows signs of leaking seals there are two options available.
